8. First and foremost this is a wild animal. Wildlife.
Specific to the Creosote Bush, this grasshopper makes a quiet rattle by the thousands as you walk the desert floor. It takes a while to find the source of the rustle. I once heard a slight variation in this insect's sound that seemed to be caused as I passed by. So I paused on a trail in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument near sunset. Stepping off the trail I nearly stepped on a Tiger Rattlesnake, a small rattler of which little is known... and I know why. |
