WHILE
WE WAIT for about 20 inches
of panorama to load... PhotoVista created this pan from a dozen Agfa
ePhoto 307 digital images on a Macintosh
computer. PhotoVista makes seamless pans out of a series of pictures
without a panning head on a tripod or any other special equipment.
A common question: why can't I see detail on the horizon? The digital camera has the equivalent of a 35mm lens, therefore the detail here is of the closest items. A short telephoto lens would be needed to bring the horizon detail into closer view. You could do it with a digital camera, you just need one with a telephoto option. Now the panorama: There are four posts, one at each corner of the observation tower. If I stood directly in the center of the tower's deck (which I didn't) then the there would be equal distance between each post. But you can see here, and on the previous page that I didn't. The view from Directly above the post bisects Mt. Tom itself in the southern quadrant. To the left, if that picture was there, you'd be looking toward Hartford CT, Springfield and Holyoke MA. Now to the right... we look over the Connecticut River Valley. At the next post, we are over Northhampton MA. Between the 2nd and 3rd posts we have UMass Amherst, just over the small blue slice of the CT River. At the 3rd post we see the Holyoke range looking Northeast. Picture tracing the range from the North to the observation tower and then turning south to Mt. Tom. |
